The Big Cheese Making Kit takes the fear out of home cheese making showing it’s much simpler and faster to make your own cheese than you might think.
September sees the launch of a new Scottish business, The Big Cheese Making Kit, which is transforming the way people think about making their own cheese. Ailsa Proverbs, Founder of The Big Cheese explains “when I first considered making my own cheese I thought it would be a lengthy process involving lots of fancy kit and weeks aging smelly cheese under the stairs! I was surprised to find I could make my own delicious cheese in less than an hour. I wondered why more people weren’t doing it. The answer was, like me, they didn’t know you could. And that was how The Big Cheese Making Kit was born”.
The Big Cheese Making Kit contains everything you need to make your own fresh cheese right in your own kitchen. All you need to do is add milk. The range of Kits include: Mozzarella & Ricotta, Goat’s Cheese and a Kids Kit designed to be a fun way of engaging children in the art of cheese making whilst giving them an understanding of the origins of food.
The Kits have been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Ailsa goes on to explain “I didn’t want to create an item that was disposable and would have a detrimental impact on the environment”.
The Big Cheese Making Kit ingredients come in eco-friendly containers made by Vegware. The clear pots in the kit are made from cornstarch bioplastic, which has a carbon footprint 77% lower than conventional oil-based plastic.
Vegware’s Communications Manager Lucy Frankel said, “We are delighted to help lower the Big Cheese Making Kit’s carbon footprint. There’s a return to valuing artisan home cooking – people love to feel proud of the food they eat. These new kits allow families to enjoy affordable home cheese-making, and it’s great to demystify a food we eat every day. It’s no surprise to us that this fab foodie idea has come out of Scotland and we’re proud to be a part of it.”
Scotland Food & Drink Marketing Manager Sophie Fraser commented: ‘Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight is the annual celebration of our country’s natural larder and it’s great to see the launch of this innovative new business”.
