Study shows that cheese makes wine taste better

The next time someone gives you a quizzical look when sat on the sofa guzzling wine and scoffing cheese, you can now justifiably say ‘I do it for science!’
A study in The Journal of Food Science tested 31 subjects who tried a variety of wines on their own, and then again while nibbling cheese. In almost all cases they found that cheese made the wine taste even better and never made it taste worst.
“In short,” said lead researcher Mara Galmarini, “when having a plate of assorted cheeses, the wine will probably taste better no matter which one they choose.”
So there you have it.
As Christmas approaches, enjoy cheese and wine aplenty. It’s what science would have wanted.
